4 use a 1 inch hole saw to bore latch hole in door edge.
This allows you to pull the door knobs off the door from both sides.
3 bore the doorknob hole through the face of door using a 2 1 8 inch hole saw.
With the hole centerline marked out it s time to drill.
Drill out the lock cylinder.
Using masking tape to secure the template to the door make marks on the template showing where you will drill.
Remove the two screws from the latch plate on the edge of the door and remove the latch from the opening.
Begin by removing the screws from the door knob on the interior side of your door.
If you re fitting your handle with the door already hung it s crucial that it doesn t move while you re drilling.
You should use a high quality wedge or doorstop to hold the door still.
In some cases door latch plate mortises might need to be cut or enlarged.
Finish drilling the hole from that side of the door.
You want to drill part way into one side of the door stop and then start to drill from the other side.
Drill halfway through from each side.
6 set latch into hole and mark its outline on door edge.
Use a sharp drill bit that is designed for metal drilling.
Aim the drill into the area just above the keyway.
Once you ve drilled through and broken the pins you may need to insert a flat screwdriver to retract the latch and open the door.
Attach the door handle kit s template to the door.
Don t just drill from one side.
The goal is to drill through the pin tumblers not the keyway itself.
Insert a 2 1 8 inch hole saw into your drill and position the pilot bit on the mark you made on the face of the door.
Make these marks on the narrow part and on both outer sides of the door being as accurate as possible.
2 screw hole boring template to door for drilling out the lockset holes.
Holding the drill steady to prevent wobbling drill through the door until the tip of the pilot bit emerges from the other side of the door.
